Some may have seen this classic sequence before, but as long as we're in a jovial mood on the blog, I thought I'd post it. Although it's done by and for Anglicans, Catholics and other sorts of Protestants will recognize the Modernist approach to religion satirized here:

This was droll, but the opposite is true in most [secular] academic environments. I was talking to a man who rec'd his Ph.D. from UVA in Theology and English Lit- I innocently asked what "flavor" of theology, assuming that it was under the auspices of some denomination. Oh, originally it was founded as a completely non-associated school of Theology (appropriate, considering the founder of the university) but that over the years, they'd started to let in "confessing" professors. I asked him what he meant. "Well, you know, people who actually go to a particular church." He said this as though it were a bad thing. Of course, in the higher reaches of academe, if you're religious you cannot possibly be "objective" and if you can be objective, you can really have a mind that's open enough for "truth" to seep in.
